I was wondering….

What types of bikes are permitted?

THE RIDE is not a race, so almost any kind of bike that you are comfortable with will work. Unicycle, bicycle, tandem, you name it! If it’s a bike and it’s not motorized, it can do THE RIDE.

Is there a rain date?

There is no rain date for THE RIDE.

What time does THE RIDE start?

The 117KM RIDE will have a 7:30 a.m.

The 50KM RIDE will have a 10:00 a.m.

What is the fundraising commitment for this event?

The Ottawa Hospital Foundation is asking all riders to raise a minimum of $750.

How does team fundraising work?

As a member of a team, your team fundraising total can be shared amongst all members to qualify them for their minimum $750 fundraising commitment. For example: a team of two needs to raise $1,500; a team of five, $3,750; and a team of 10 needs to raise $7,500. As long as there are enough funds under the team’s total regardless of who actually raised it to meet the minimum fundraising commitment, all members of the team can ride on September 9.

Why are you asking all riders to raise $750 regardless of the distance they are riding?

THE RIDE is a fundraising event and our goal is to make the biggest impact possible on research and care at The Ottawa Hospital. So whatever distance you choose to ride, your impact will be the same.

How do I create a team?

I’m having problems registering myself/team online. Who can I contact?

Can a team be composed of riders doing different distances?

Absolutely! Even virtual riders and volunteers can be a part of your team.

Can I raise funds if I’m not riding in the event?

Yes, you can register and raise funds online or use a pledge form. You could also choose the virtual ride option perhaps that would better suit you.

What happens if I don’t raise $750 by September 9?

All participants must commit to raising $750 by October 31 in order to participate. We understand this is a significant commitment that we are asking you to make, but we are committed to helping you achieve that goal, through fundraising tips and online tools. We are also here to ensure that your experience during that day is outstanding by providing refreshing pit stops, a celebration and meal at the end of the day. Ultimately, funds will go toward crucial research taking place in Ottawa; some of which is the most promising in the world.

I am holding a bake sale/garage sale/fundraising event. Do you have signage that we could use at the event?

Yes, simply contact us at 613-798-5555, ext. 19832 to arrange what you need for your fundraising event.

I’ve held a fundraising event. How do I enter these funds so they are reflected on my fundraising page?

To enter cash and cheque donations, log in to your participant centre using your username and password.

Click on ‘Enter New Gift’ on the right side of the page and enter funds raised at your event. This amount will then be reflected on your fundraising page. Please drop off your monies to the Foundation office, or bring them with you on RIDE day.

How do I donate to a participant?

Just click on ‘Sponsor a Rider or Team’ button located on the homepage of THE RIDE website and then select an Individual or a Team.

How do my donors receive a tax receipt?

Donors who donate online with a valid email address will automatically receive a tax receipt via email. Donors who pledge more than $15 by cash or cheque will receive their receipt by mail if they provide a valid mailing address. Receipts will be received by the end of the year, or earlier depending on when the donation was received.

Who do I contact if I have lost my tax receipt?

If you’ve lost your receipt, need a correction or a duplicate, please call 613-798-5555, ext. 19832 or email us at events@toh.ca

Where can I find the Rider Safety Video?

Can my child participate in the ride with me?

Youth aged 14 to 17 on September 9, 2018, may participate in THE RIDE on the 50KM closed route and must be accompanied by an adult. Although we appreciate the interest of all individuals who would like to participate, we will only be able to accept those who meet the age requirement.If you’d like more information, please contact us at 613-798-5555, ext. 19832.

I want to arrange custom jerseys for my team. Who should I contact?

I want to change my route. How do I do that?

If you wish to change your route option, please contact us at 613-798-5555, ext. 19832 or via email at events@toh.ca.

Oh no! I can no longer participate in the event due to a wedding/injury/etc. what do I do?

To cancel your participation in the event, simply contact us at 613-798-5555, ext. 19832 or via email at events@toh.ca. Please note that refunds are not issued for registration fees or donations.

If I can no longer participate in the event, can I give my spot to someone else?

Yes, provided that you have reached the $750 fundraising minimum. Simply give us a heads up by contact us at 613-798-5555, ext. 19832 or via email at events@toh.ca

Does research at The Ottawa Hospital involve animal testing?

Funds from THE RIDE support basic, clinical and translational research at The Ottawa Hospital. The funding typically supports the purchase of critical equipment or helps recruit and retain quality scientists, staff and trainees. Our scientists do oversee the conduct of important projects that rely on animal research in order to determine whether an idea holds the promise to become a new therapy. However, these projects are typically funded by external grants that the researchers secure from peer-reviewed agencies. For all projects that do require the use of animals, The Ottawa Hospital abides by guidelines from the Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) regarding the ethical use and care of animals in science. All CCAC guidelines are based on scientific evidence and have undergone extensive peer review.

If I register for the virtual ride, can I still participate in the celebration event?

Yes! All of our riders, their family and friends are welcome to THE RIDE celebration on September 9, 2018 at Tunney’s Pasture. Food and beverage tickets will be provided for the riders, while family and friends can purchase tickets on site.

Will you help advertise my fundraising event?

THE RIDE team is here to help. We’re happy to post your fundraising event on our website, under events calendar. We can also share it on social media including Facebook: DoTheRide and Twitter: @DoTheRide.

How do I access the event app?

Our event app is downloadable on iTunes and GooglePlay. You’ll get all the latest from our event in one location, you can track your kilometres and your family can see your progress along the route on RIDE day.
