For Alex and Jim
Sometimes, in life, you get to meet some truly special people. Persons that love life, persons that inspire you with their courage and determination, persons that always seem to have a smile on their faces, that have beautiful souls. Alex Néron, was one of these persons. He would make me feel like a million bucks every time I saw him. He just had a special glow, a presence, an aura around him. Every time I ran into him at Railbender, whether it was to get tattooed or just to chat or shoot the shit about tattoo ideas, I left the place feeling better than when I walked in. He had that gift. He left a mark on my life. And now I want to ride for him.
I am also doing the Ride for my friend Jim Love. Jim has now been in remission for 6 years. I met Jim at work, at the CRTC. When we learned that he had cancer, the CRTC family galvanized around him and we built a support team for him. Jim had it rough and needed a bone marrow transplant after several rounds of chemo weren't enough. Jim is also one of those beautiful souls who just illuminate your life once you met him. And he still inspires me everyday.
So, basically, I am doing the Ride because Alex's presence and aura inspired me. I am doing the Ride because I want to honor Alex's memory. I am doing the Ride because Jim inspires me to be strong everyday. I am doing the Ride so we can fund research and ultimately vanquish cancer so that, one day, no one has to go through what Alex and Jim went through.
